Your Sportzey rating is an Elo-style number. It moves only when you play, and only when your opponent signs the score.
Your Sportzey rating is a single number. It goes up when you win, down when you lose, and it never moves on a result your opponent has not signed.
It is Elo-style
Elo is the system behind chess ratings. The idea is simple. If you beat someone rated above you, you gain more. If you lose to someone rated below you, you lose more. Over many matches the number settles near your real level.
How it starts
When you join, you rate yourself from 1 to 10. That self-rating is locked once you set it. It is only a starting point. From then on, matches decide where you end up.
The first ten matches are provisional
A new rating is a guess. Ten matches is how long it takes the guess to find its level, so your first ten are marked provisional.
The margin counts
Sportzey looks at the margin of the result, not only who won. A 21-5 win says more about the gap between two players than a 21-19 win does.
Only signed results count
A match moves your rating only after your opponent countersigns the score. That is what keeps the number honest. You can read how that works in why your opponent has to sign the score.
What it is for
- Finding opponents at your level.
- Seeing whether you are improving.
- Settling the Sunday argument with something other than memory.
